I was originally scheduled to go to Jersey this weekend, but I opted to go to the Winter Novice Championship qualifier at Hartpury College instead as I thought I had a real chance with one of my rides, Freule TN.

She’s a really exciting seven-year-old that I got the ride on last year, and she’s really come into her own. There were 78 starters in the class and it was Table A10 – so it got bigger as the round went on. I had a clear first round and made it into the jump-off with 24 other competitors. I saw a few go into the lead and knew what route to take – I really wanted to give it a whirl as the horse felt great. Lovely round but pipped into second – I was 32.77 seconds and the class winner was 32.42.

We’ve qualified to go straight into the main arena for the final at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in July and I couldn’t be happier with this mare. Roll on Hickstead!
